Chambers Latin America ranked Chadbourne as one of the leading firms working on “Banking and Finance” in Brazil
Chadbourne has been representing clients, including leading Brazilian and international banks and corporations, development and export-credit agencies, and investment funds and international investors, with respect to their Brazil related operations for over 20 years. The firm is especially active in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, mining and natural resources and commodities. Through our lawyers located in Brazil, the US, Mexico and Europe we represent clients investing both into and out of Brazil in a wide range of transactional matters focusing on:
- Project Finance
- Trade/Bank Finance
- Governmental Agency Supported Financing
- Mergers and Acquisitions
- Private Equity/Investment Funds
- Capital Markets
- Structured Finance/Securitization
- Financial Restructuring
We have worked on some of the most complex transactions completed to date in Brazil and we have a long-term commitment to our practice in Brazil, as well as to Latin America in general. In 2010, the firm opened an office in São Paulo, Brazil putting us in closer contact with our Brazilian clients.
In addition, we regularly provide assistance on Brazil related matters in the non-transactional areas of:
- Dispute Resolution/International Arbitration
- Tax Planning/Structuring
- Intellectual Property
- Insurance and Reinsurance
- International Compliance/Enforcement
Our practice draws on multilingual lawyers with cultural knowledge and transactional experience across Brazil. Chadbourne is one of only two New York-headquartered law firms with offices in both Brazil and Mexico, the two largest markets in Latin America. We have active relationships with the top law firms in Brazil, and regularly coordinate legal advice in Brazil to ensure that clients receive comprehensive, integrated and consistent advice through the combined skills of lawyers in Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom and other offices around the world.
In addition, our London office has a dedicated Brazil Desk, advising corporations and high-net-worth individuals on international corporate and commercial work with a focus on cross-border investments, joint ventures, international banking and financial agreements, and international tax planning structures.
Although—in common with all other international firms with offices in Brazil—Chadbourne is not permitted by the Brazilian bar to practice Brazilian law, we have a full understanding of the legal and business environment, and are well prepared to advise foreign investors doing business in Brazil.
