Practice Description
Bill Perry’s practice focuses on arbitration and litigation involving insurance and reinsurance issues, contract and other commercial disputes between corporations, and international arbitration disputes, including disputes involving power projects in emerging markets. Mr. Perry’s international arbitration experience includes representing and advising clients in connection with arbitrations involving Nepal, Brazil, India, China, Nigeria and a former Soviet republic.
Prior to moving to the Firm’s Washington office in 1993, Mr. Perry practiced for 10 years as a general litigator in Chadbourne’s New York office, where his practice included product liability cases, commercial contract litigation and mediations, corporate compliance programs, and the prosecution and defense of environmental, asbestos and “toxic tort” and other insurance coverage disputes.
Representative Matters
- Acting for a West African subsidiary of a major multinational group in a dispute with governmental authorities, under ICC rules, regarding the existence and scope of tax exemptions.
- Represented a Brazilian exporter in a trade dispute with a U.S. importer in an international arbitration under the ICC Rules.
- Represented a government agency in an international arbitration under the AAA International Arbitration Rules concerning political risk insurance coverage for the alleged expropriation of a power project in Asia.
- Represented a power project developer in an international arbitration under the AAA International Arbitration Rules concerning political risk insurance coverage claims arising out of a dispute in connection with a power plant in China.
- Represented a power project developer in an international arbitration under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules over a construction-related dispute concerning a hydroelectric project in Nepal.

Mr. Perry is a member of the District of Columbia and New York State Bars; American Bar Association; The Voice of the Defense Bar (DRI); International Bar Association; and London Court of International Arbitration (representative member).

Speeches and Events
Mr. Perry has lectured in the People’s Republic of China and Germany on U.S. product liability law and prevention. He has also lectured on international arbitration issues in private seminars and at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.
