Practice Description
A former submarine officer, Phil Goodman is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and the navy’s Nuclear Power School. During his active service, Mr. Goodman served as Combat Systems Officer and qualified as submarine engineering officer. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Goodman earned an M.B.A. from the Fuqua School at Duke University. Mr. Goodman brings to his practice a business perspective, and an appreciation of the needs of senior management for timely, accurate and efficient legal advice.
Mr. Goodman’s practice encompasses arbitration and litigation, including international commercial arbitration and domestic and cross-border reinsurance disputes. In the reinsurance context, Mr. Goodman has represented both domestic and international insurers and reinsurers, and his experience includes providing business advice and managing dispute resolution for property/casualty and life reinsurance companies (both “live” and in runoff). He has served on the board of a privately held insurance company.
Mr. Goodman routinely works with the Firm’s Project Finance and Telecommunications professionals in addressing the dispute resolutions needs of their clients. In this context his international arbitration experience includes representing and advising clients in connection with disputes in Nepal, Nigeria, and in several former Soviet republics.
Before joining Chadbourne in 1995, Mr. Goodman was a commercial litigator at Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C. , focusing on the financial services industry.
