C&P Holds Conference Call Discussing Stimulus Bill's Effect on the Market and the Bill's Creation of Opportunities with New Projects and New Sources of Money

February 26, 2009

Chadbourne & Parke held a timely and informative conference call on February 19, 2009, which focused on the stimulus bill's effect on the market and the bill's creation of opportunities with new projects and new sources of money.

Following Congress's passage of the massive, $787 billion economic stimulus bill on February 13 and President Obama's signing of the bill on February 17, this roundtable discussion featured a veteran group of Chadbourne lawyers who followed the stimulus bill closely as it worked its way through Congress. During the one-and-a-half hour conference call the panelists explained important aspects of the legislation and also answered audience questions.

In particular, the panel pointed out that the bill includes cash grants and new tax subsidies for renewable energy developers and for manufacturers who make products for the new green economy. The panel also emphasized the bill authorizes the government to take some of the risk on loans to renewable energy and transmission projects in an effort to get banks lending again to them. Also vigorously discussed was how the bill also directs huge sums of money into spending on "shovel ready" infrastructure projects.

The conference call's roundtable discussion format was the same as that seen on the Sunday morning news shows with journalist panels. Moderating the call for Chadbourne was project finance partner Ed Zaelke, and the panel included project finance partners Doug Fried, Ken Hansen, Keith Martin and Adam Umanoff, and project finance counsel Eli Katz.
