Practice Description
Julia Romanova’s practice focuses on litigation, arbitration, corporate, bankruptcy and real estate matters. She advises clients with regard to Russian foreign investment legislation and regulations, and represents the interests of clients before Russian courts. Over the past several years, Ms. Romanova has spent much of her time working as a Russian law advisor for clients in the course of international arbitration proceedings and litigation in foreign courts (USA, Holland). She also has extensive experience with international multilateral lending institutions on recovery and restructuring matters, as well as participated in general due diligence reviews of numerous Russian companies.

Representative Matters
- Represented the Bankruptcy Trustee of Yukos Oil Company in NY Bankruptcy Court, participated in litigation in the Netherlands with respect to the sales of Yukos Oil Company's foreign assets (including as Russian law experts), which were worth billions of dollars and located in multiple jurisdictions, and represented the client in an international commercial arbitration, achieving a favorable settlement.
- Represented a subsidiary of Rosneft in international commercial arbitration(London Court of International Arbitration) with claims amounting to more than$1 billion dollars in connection with two disputes against Total with a complete victory in the first case, and a partial victory in the second case.
- Served as Russian law expert in a multi-million dollar case considered by the High Court of Justice Queen's Bench Division Commercial Court in London.
- Served as Russian law expert in a multi-million dollar case considered by the LCIA.
- Represented a major Russian auditing firm as a defendant in the Russian commercial courts against a claimant seeking to enforce an ICCA award.
- Successfully represented a multilateral development bank against its Swiss debtor seeking recovery of a $57 million debt.
- Successfully represented a foreign investor, owner of a minority stake in a major Russian metallurgical plant, in two litigation proceedings aimed at protecting its shareholder’s rights.
- Represented a major Turkish construction company as a creditor in bankruptcy proceedings initiated against a major Russian petrochemical company.
- Represented a major Russian auditing firm in litigation proceedings initiated by the shareholder of customer seeking to declare the audit reports invalid.
- Represented ZAO "Citibank" in a series of litigations against its former employees.
- Successfully represented top-managers of one of the Firm's major corporate clients in criminal proceedings.
- Advised a multilateral development bank with regard to two LCIA arbitrations brought against a major Russian automobile company and a Russian shipping company.
- Advised a foreign aluminum trader regarding arbitration proceedings held in Zurich, involving a major Russian aluminum plant.
- Advised a major Russian oil company and a Cyprus holding company of a major Russian investment company in two separate litigation proceedings held in an eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
- Participated in due diligence projects of a major Russian cement holding company and its other affiliated cement plants, a major Russian holding company for production of beverages and a major Russian tobacco company.
- Participated in debt equity swap transactions with participation of an international financial institution.
Honors
Ms. Romanova is recognized by Best Lawyers (2010) for her work inantitrust, litigation, real estate, international arbitration and arbitration and mediation in Moscow.
