How the Stimulus Bill Will Affect the Market: Opportunities - New Projects, New Sources of Money

February 19, 2009

Congress passed a massive, $787 billion economic stimulus bill on Friday in an effort to restart the US economy.  President Obama is expected to sign it on Tuesday.  The bill includes cash grants and new tax subsidies for renewable energy developers and for manufacturers who make products for the new green economy.  It authorizes the government to take some of the risk on loans to renewable energy and transmission projects in an effort to get banks lending again to them.  It also directs huge sums of money into spending on "shovel ready" infrastructure projects.
