Practice Description
Emily Abrahams is an associate in the New York office and a member of Chadbourne’s commercial litigation group. Ms. Abrahams focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, including banking, financial services and intellectual property. In addition to having played a key role in numerous complex litigations, Ms. Abrahams has significant trial experience, including having second-chaired five trials.
Ms. Abrahams is a member of Chadbourne’s Diversity Initiatives Committee, LGBT/Straight Alliance Steering Committee and Women’s Initiatives Committee.

- Currently representing international bank in adversary proceedings commenced by a Madoff feeder fund.
- Currently representing international fund in preference action arising out of Madoff bankruptcy.
- Currently representing investment bank seeking to recover success fees in connection with the sale of a life settlement portfolio.
- Obtained favorable settlement on behalf of international bank in connection with multiple lawsuits concerning multi-billion dollar credit default swap transactions.
- Obtained $25 million jury verdict on behalf of Swiss bank in an action against an Italian bank concerning fraudulent notes.
- Obtained favorable settlement on behalf of a publicly-traded semiconductor company after two-week trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York concerning misappropriation of trade secrets.
- Obtained multi-million dollar judgment on behalf of medical management company after two-week arbitration concerning wrongful termination and payment of fees.
- Representation of former majority shareholder of a healthcare corporation in an action to obtain substantial retirement benefits.
- Representation of ethanol producer in multi-million dollar construction dispute concerning contractual breaches and federal and state tax credits.
- Representation of mutual fund company in an SEC investigation concerning directed brokerage, 12b-1 fee, soft dollar and proprietary trading issues.
- Obtained favorable settlement on behalf of a wife in a divorce action concerning the disposition of a cryogenically preserved embryo.
- Successfully represented photographer in actions concerning copyright infringement and breach of contract by a New York magazine and film festival.
- Successfully represented artist in an action against New York City art gallery to regain possession of wrongfully retained artwork.
- Successfully represented parents from Colombia and the United Kingdom seeking the return of their children in proceedings under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
