Adrian Mecz represents the London market and international insurers and reinsurers in connection with high-value disputes, often involving banking and other financial lines risks, including professional indemnity. He is also active in contingency risk and has advised on a variety of policy wordings. Mr. Mecz has considerable experience in international fraud investigations, particularly those arising in financial institutions and commercial crime coverages.

Representative Matters

  • Representing London market reinsurers of a major financial institution captive insurer in connection with liability claims relating to World Online.
  • Advising London market insurers regarding a substantial claim under financial institution policies involving loan losses due to alleged employee dishonesty and alleged theft of collateral pledged.
  • Advising London market insurers and reinsurers concerning over $450 million in claims stemming from the Algosaibi Group default on various credit facilities based on allegations of fraud and forgery.
  • Representing reinsurers of offshore captives in Bermuda arbitrations involving accounting firms' professional liabilities.
  • Advising insurers of a UK Fund Manager in connection with a claim from fund investors arising from the acquisition of a public limited company. Allegations made by investors include misrepresentation and misselling of the funds.
  • Representing a UK insurer in arbitration proceedings to determine coverage in respect of claims involving alleged borrower frauds in the extension of subprime mortgage credit.
  • Advising a London market insurer on its outwards reinsurance protections in connection with claims by Lehman Brothers.
  • Representing Lexington Insurance Company in English High Court proceedings against Wasa and AGF regarding extent of back-to-back cover in facultative reinsurance.
  • Led the team for a major U.S. insurer, defending the Hollywood Funding litigation brought on behalf of a Bond Trustee and offshore structured investment fund, in connection with a series of investment grade notes, which were utilised to finance various slates of films.
  • Representing London market insurers of an international financial institution in connection with a $700 million unauthorized trading loss.
  • Representing a cedant in litigation to recover under aggregate stop loss reinsurance.

Mr. Mecz is consistently ranked in Chambers UK: A Client’s Guide to the UK Legal Profession and is recognized by The Legal 500 UK for his "significant experience" in insurance and reinsurance litigation. He is also listed in Best Lawyers for his work in insurance in the UK and the U.S., noted in The Insider's Guide to Insurance and Reinsurance and recommended for insurance and reinsurance in Legal Experts 2012.

Mr. Mecz is an accredited mediator and a member of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution's (CEDR) mediator skills faculty.
