Special Antitrust Counsel for Tender Offer

Companhia Vale do Rio Doce

Chadbourne is representing Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) as special antitrust counsel in the company's $17.6 billion tender offer for Inco, a Canadian nickel company. CVRD, a Brazilian mining company, is trying to acquire Inco in one of the largest takeovers ever attempted by a Latin American company.  CVRD, which wants to diversify its metals business, bought Canadian nickel miner Canico Resource in 2005 for $800 million. The company is the world's largest producer of iron-ore, and also mines copper and aluminium. CVRD is active in hydroelectric power generation and the rail and shipping businesses, which support its mining activities.
