Mealey’s Reinsurance Litigation and Arbitration Conference

February 11-12, 2008

Partner Joy Langford and associate Samantha Miller spoke at Mealey’s Reinsurance Litigation and Arbitration Conference, held February 11-12 in Washington, DC. Ms. Langford, the conference co-chair, gave the welcome and introductory remarks at 8:45 a.m. on February 11. At 1:15 p.m., Ms. Miller served on a panel called “Dealing With the Major Recurring Issues,” focused on allocating multiple-year losses on issues such as the World Trade Center, Hurricane Katrina, Enron and the subprime mortgage crisis. At 4:30 p.m., Ms. Langford moderated a roundtable of in-house counsel, examining arbitration, emerging claims issues and developments in modern reinsurance contract wordings.

On February 12 at 11:30 a.m., Ms. Thorpe took part in a discussion called “Access to Records, Privilege, Waiver and the Voluntary Disclosure of Privileged Documents to Reinsurers,” focused on common interest, tension between protecting privileged material and transparency with the cedent’s reinsurers, and reinsurers’ ability to compel privileged material in a dispute setting.
