Chadbourne represented a European bank group led by KBC Bank NV and Fortis Investments, with claims in excess of $350 million in the complex, cross-border Chapter 11 cases of Lernout & Hauspie/Dictaphone, a Belgium-based provider of speech and language technology equipment for businesses and consumers around the world. Chadbourne was instrumental in negotiating a plan of liquidation for Lernout that circumvented various problems by irreconcilable inconsistencies between U.S. and Belgium insolvency laws.
