Forum on International Arbitration

Oliver Armas spoke at the roundtable “Focus on Argentina and Latin America” on October 10 at the Forum on International Arbitration in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Panelists discussed the potential advantages and challenges in using ADR in Argentina and other Latin American countries and the factors instrumental in selecting a Latin American country as a seat for an international commercial arbitration. Other topics at the forum included applicable laws, the role of the judiciary, the arbitral process, the rules of evidence, enforcement of awards and arbitration clauses, existing jurisprudence and new trends and developments regarding the ADR landscape in Argentina and Latin America. Mr. Armas took part in a mock international arbitration administered under the ICDR rules and administrative system. He served as counsel for claimant in the initial pleadings phase of the mock arbitration. Chadbourne was a sponsor of the conference, which was organized by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) of the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
