Practice Description
Adam Wenner has been active in the energy industry for more than 25 years. He represents power generators, traditional electric utilities, regional transmission organizations, lenders and other financial institutions in energy transactions, as well as regulatory hearings and litigation. Mr. Wenner represents energy companies before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where he previously served as Deputy Assistant General Counsel. He also represents power project developers and financial institutions in the development and sale of power projects, and recently has focused on the development and financing of wind energy and solar energy projects.
Representative Matters
- Represents many of the nation's largest wind energy developers in negotiations, dispute resolution and administrative litigation relating to transmission and interconnection arrangements. His representations include interconnection and transmission matters involving many utilities, as well as the California ISO, the Midwest ISO and the Southwest Power Pool.
- Serves as outside energy regulatory compliance officer for one of the largest companies in the US, which has divisions involved in energy investments and conventional and renewable generation systems development.
- Represents the development of what will be the world's largest wind energy facility in regulatory aspects of a complex sale/leaseback and bond financing.
- Represents many energy companies in setting up compliance systems and contested matters involving North American Electric Reliability Corporation electric reliability standards, applicable generation, and transmission owners and operators.
- Represents tax equity investors in several major transactions involving acquisitions of interests in several wind energy project portfolios.
- Represented the US subsidiary of a major Japanese trading company in the development of the first independent power project in the US, and continues to represent that company in the development and acquisition of gas-fired and renewable energy projects.
- Represents a major bank in the financing of a wind portfolio in New York State.
- Represents a major wind developer in the acquisition of its parent company by a European utility company.
- Represents an Australian infrastructure fund in the acquisition of a US gas and electric utility.
- Represented investors in a $600 million undersea electric transmission line project.
Honors
Mr. Wenner has a peer review rating of “AV” on Martindale-Hubbell, the highest legal ability and ethical standards rating accorded to lawyers in the legal directory.
Mr. Wenner is cited in the 2010 edition of SuperLawyers in the specialty of energy and natural resources. He was also recognized in Chambers Global – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2006, 2008-2010), Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (2005-2006 and 2008-2009) and The Best Lawyers in America (2006, 2008, 2010 and 2010) for energy law.
